| Hugz Michelle. I've always found primal scream therapy to be a good way to release some frustration. Hope you are feeling better soon.

| Yes..the scream there really helps... Lupus sucks cuz you never know when it's gonna hit, and when it does, how bad the flare's gonna be or which part of your body it's gonna affect. Right now..it's playing the mind game, along with the joints and heart. My first signs are intestinal and the joints of my fingers itch, but I can't scratch them cuz it hurts, and...the itch doesn't get satisfied. I know a flare will be coming very soon... Usually..this means all of my joints will be very tender for about 2 weeks, I'll have severe chest pain and shortness of breath, and be exhausted. This particular flair has me depressed and agitated. Lupus can cause emotional changes as well...welcome to the world of Lupus. It's unclear whether or not the Lupus caused the bp..I kind of doubt it since I have a family history, but since many of my family members have auto immune disorders and Lupus is one...it's like what came first..the chicken or the egg? Uh Oh..the chicken story again. Anyway..I'm not one to dwell..I'm Always Hopeful and already in a better place. I just needed to get it off my chest so I could move on for the day. I'm back to my egg hunts and desperately searching the internet for a gif of Bobby Hill doing that giddy face when he's excited cuz....turn your volume up here...I'M GOING TO SEE MY GRANDBABIES TOMORROW!!!!!!!! Thanks so much everyone for your love... This is why I LOVE HUGZ!!!!! | |

| It's amazing to me how these threads seem to wander.. Okay, I have to talk... I've been keeping a BIG secret (thanks, Ed for not spillin' the beans). I'm very sick right now with my heart because of the lupus flair. I don't like to complain or gripe, because I truly like to keep pressing forward and keep being "always hopeful". Yet, as Ed pointed out to me, it's important to share. I'm having severe chest pain and am so short of breath I can hardly walk to the bathroom and back. I have a cardiology appointment in the morning, but there's really not much they can do for me. I almost called 911 tonight because I just didn't have enough air and the pain was so bad, but the thought of spending all those hours in the ER, getting stabbed up to 15 times for an IV and having it end up in my neck, and then being sent home because they simply cannot help me at this point was just too much for me. I have a sucky EKG, it's "scary" as the doc put it, but my arteries are beautiful. This confuses heart docs, so they wring their hands and ask about my bipolar. Can you say pissed off? My psychiatrist gets so angry at this....My regular heart doc doesn't do this. It's the ER docs and nurses. I actually told a nurse when I had been taken by ambulance...had passed out in the ambulance because my vitals had crashed...and had a chest pain of 9 out of a scale of 10..who asked me, "do you know that smoking makes it harder for your bipolar to be treated?"..my response??? "What in God's name does that have ANYTHING to do with the chest pain I was brought in with...AND...I have hypomania...do you even KNOW what that is???????" She was a student nurse and had no business asking me a single question. That evening, the ER doc actually told me NOT to come into the ER with chest pain (I had a heart attack in Nov. of 97), but to stay home and take morphine. When I asked that they document that on my discharge papers, they wouldn't. I've been dealing with this for 15 years now, and have almost died once due to stupid docs. I have a great doc who says I have big problems with my heart, but the answers are unsure. So...this is my issue right now. I'm angry about it. Really, really angry. I don't feel good and I'm scared. When I struggle for air and my heart is in pain I get afraid, but always laugh it off cuz I'm afraid to show I'm afraid. I have pulmonary hypertension now from the lupus, and I'm scared. I'm going to ask the doc tomorrow why it is I have NEVER been sent to a specialist for that, even tho I've had it now since 97. I really think that's a big part of the chest pain and shortness of breath. Okay, I'm done. Thanks for listening. I'm sorry I had to dump. It makes me feel ashamed and week. I'm really glad you're here. | |

| Michelle, you have no reason to feel ashamed or weak. In fact, weak is the last word I would think of to describe you. Dealing with lupus takes great amounts of courage and strength. Those doctors who have treated you so horrible should be feeling shame. I wish there was a way for those doctors to spend a few weeks feeling what we feel...but not knowing when or if it would end. Maybe then they would have some compassion.
I'm glad you told us what is going on with you. We are here for you to lean on. And don't apologize for dumping here, that's what we are here for. We don't expect you to be cheerful and perky 24/7. We can't give extra helpings of love and support if we don't know when you need it. Please keep us up to date on what the doc says.
Many gentle hugs my friend. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

| Just got back from the doc. He says I have something called Sick Sinus Syndrome, which I know something about because my Aunt has it. I downloaded my heart last night and had over 600 incidents this past week, but they still need to go over it and take out the "trash" from the real things. There is a lot of junk on there from interference they have to go through. So..we'll see. He says the med I'm taking right now, Cardene, is helping with the pulmonary hypertension, and the last two echos showed my pressures were within normal range, so it looks like that is getting better, thank God. I'm pasting a bit from wikipedia regarding the sick sinus syndrome in case anyone's interested cuz I didn't know everything about it. Thanks for your support. I only slept 2 hours last nite so am gonna rest today. Sick sinus syndrome From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Sick sinus syndrome Classification and external resources ICD-10 I49.5 ICD-9 427.81 Electrocardiogram from a man with bradycardia-tachycardia syndrome following mitral valvuloplasty, resection of the left atrial appendage and maze procedure. The ECG shows AV-junctional rhythm resulting in bradycardia at around 46 beats per minutes. The second beat is most likely an atrial extrasystole, given the atypical P wave (negative in I, positive in aVR). This ECG from the same patient shows atrial fibrillation at around 126 beats per minute. Sick sinus syndrome, also called sinus node dysfunction, is a group of abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) presumably caused by a malfunction of the sinus node, the heart's primary pacemaker.[1] Bradycardia-tachycardia syndrome is a variant of sick sinus syndrome in which slow arrhythmias and fast arrhythmias alternate. Contents [show] * 1 Causes * 2 Symptoms * 3 Diagnosis * 4 Treatment * 5 References Causes Sick sinus syndrome is a relatively uncommon syndrome. It can result in many abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), including sinus arrest, sinus node exit block, sinus bradycardia, and other types of bradycardia (slow heart rate). Sick sinus syndrome may also be associated with tachycardias (fast heart rate) such as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) and atrial fibrillation. Tachycardias that occur with sick sinus syndrome are characterized by a long pause after the tachycardia. Abnormal rhythms are often caused or worsened by medications such as digitalis, calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers, sympatholytic medications, and anti-arrhythmics. Disorders that cause scarring, degeneration, or damage to the conduction system can cause sick sinus syndrome, including sarcoidosis, amyloidosis, Chagas' disease,[2] and cardiomyopathies. Sick sinus syndrome is more common in elderly adults, where the cause is often a non-specific, scar-like degeneration of the cardiac conduction system. Cardiac surgery, especially to the atria, is a common cause of sick sinus syndrome in children. Coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, and aortic and mitral valve diseases may be associated with sick sinus syndrome, although this association may only be incidental. Symptoms Even though many types of sick sinus syndrome produce no symptoms, patients may present with: * Stokes-Adams attacks - fainting due to asystole or ventricular fibrillation * Dizziness or light-headedness * Palpitations * Chest pain or angina * Shortness of breath * Fatigue * Headache * Nausea [edit] Diagnosis Ambulatory monitoring of the electrocardiogram (ECG) may be necessary because arrhythmias are transient.[3] The ECG may show any of the following * Inappropriate sinus bradycardia * Sinus arrest * Sinoatrial block * Atrial fibrillation with slow ventricular response * A prolonged asystolic period after a period of tachycardias * Atrial flutter * Ectopic atrial tachycardia * Sinus node reentrant tachycardia Electrophysiologic tests are no longer used for diagnostic purposes because of their low specificity and sensitivity. Cardioinhibitory and vasodepressor forms of sick sinus syndrome may be revealed by tilt table testing. Treatment Pacemakers have been used in the treatment of sick sinus syndrome.[4] Bradyarrhythmias are well controlled with pacemakers, while tachyarrhythmias respond well to medical therapy. However, because both bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias may be present, drugs to control tachyarrhythmia may exacerbate bradyarrhythmia. Therefore, a pacemaker is implanted before drug therapy is begun for the tachyarrhythmia. | |
