As a person with no little experience in dealing with chronic pain (12 years of trying virtually every technique available to reduce the pain, but without success), I would like to compliment Laurel Gavin for her thorough commentary on chronic pain treatments in her recent Union article, "Living with chronic pain" (June 13). Her descriptions of the growing number of treatments available for confronting what she calls "the beast" give hope to those of us trying to manage pain.
