So Why Do We Still Smoke?

One in four people in the UK still smoke, even though they know the habit will reduce their quality of life and raise the risk of premature death. The figure is only a fraction of the one in two of the population who inhaled regularly when smoking reached its peak popularity in the 1950s.

So Why Do We Still Smoke?

Well... ..I quit for 26 years...then had my knees replaced and the operation was unsuccessful because I am allergic to the nickel in the knees, so I was in constant pain and unable to walk. At the same time, I was being ..well..I'm going to choose not to say what was happening in my life then because it's still too tender, but I fell into the darkest depression I was ever in and I began smoking. That was 8 years ago and I haven't been able to make an emotional break yet. I can go without cigs for long periods of time without a problem..so it's not a nic addiction. It's an emotional one. I quit a couple of years ago for 4 months, then my Dad fell and when he went into the rehab place and they dropped him and broke his foot, I started again. It's all emotional. So... ..that's my story and I'm stickin to it.

I know why I started, I was 17.....my father......now I need to quit, still working on it....I just paid $8.47 a pack I am going to quit this is ridiculous, I can't afford to smoke anymore the magic herb is cheaper than cigarettes

Oh, I am! I quit smoking in the car when I bought my new on last July, and I quit smoking in the apartment before Jack moved in so I already have cut way down. I hope it won't be too hard. But damn, I've smoked longer than some of you have lived! I've smoked like 37 years!!!

No... just the thought of trying to quit smoking right now while I'm in so much pain and my head is in such a bad place makes me want to run away and hide...
