How could I forget and be reminded by a dream
of the day I broke your heart and forever wounded mine?
We met in 4th grade in that old brick school
and you lived in my old neighborhood
We watched each other with more than our eyes
those years of growing together
how you looked at me changed who I am
I loved you then, like I love you now,
from a distance, here in my mind!
What a beautiful woman you must certainly be,
I remember your brown/blonde hair so long
pulled back with a bow, and your laughing blue eyes
and the day in 6th grade I got off at your bus stop
and how you walked silently next to me
the words I never found the courage for have burned within me!
How I hated myself as you walked away crying
I wanted to buy you a soda at the old country store
But for lack of a dollar, I watched you walk out of my life
and I still love you, from a distance
thirty some odd years, and two and a half miles away! | |
