Bucket
Everyone is given a bucket
some start out in rough shape
life is not fair, nor reality easy
some buckets get dented
some get rusty, or their handle may fail
mine has holes, some really dented areas
patched as best as can be, despite the rust
a leak seems trivial at first when fetching water
but soon its insidious evil shows
it grows wearisome -- the extra work
not to mention the inconvenience of the trickle
is not easy, cleaning up the ever-present dribbles
lets nay venture to speak of wet foot wear for chores
or the constant explaining, I have good days too
and days the patch fails miserable and foils life
times of disruption beyond mere trifle, embarrassment
misunderstanding and strain, doubt and jealousy
all kinds of rotten thoughts spring out from bitter tears
but each day to the spring I trudge wearily dreaming
of a bright shiny new bucket, but clinging to this vessel
for a soul it holds, no matter the holes!
